Cashner-led Padres beat San Francisco Giants 2-1

Mark J. Rebilas-US PRESSWIRE

Andrew Cashner quieted questions regarding whether he was ready for the rotation by holding the Giants to one run in his six full innings of work. After getting the doubters' collective parachute panties in one huge knot by allowing a first-inning run, Cash Money got down to business and shut the Dickhats down for five innings before giving way to two hitless innings between Joe Thatcher, Dale Thayer, and Luke Gregerson. Huston Street came in and picked up his fourth save while walking a two-hit tightwire.

Cashner also helped his cause by stealing a base and scoring the first of the Padres' two runs. Young Money was the first Friars starting pitcher to snag a bag since Anthony Bass last summer. Before The Bassmaster pulled it off, the last San Diego starter to do the deed was senior citizen Greg Maddux in 2008.

Cash evened his record with his first win and Giants starter Tim Lincecum fell to 2-1 despite striking out nine Padres in seven innings.
