First sweep of the season is in the books!

USA TODAY Sports

Okay, back to baseball. I wanted to post this this morning, but didn't get around to it. The Padres completed their first sweep of the season yesterday on April 17th. If I counted correctly that was the 11th earliest that they've pulled off that feat.

Did you know in 1971 that the Padres never swept an opponent in at least a 3 game series? Did you know that in 1969 the franchise started the season with a sweep of the Astros? Further did you know that their latest sweep was in 1970 when they barely fit it in against the Reds before the season ended?

Fascinating stuff right? I think next I'll look at the Padres being swept. I wonder if they ever went a season without being swept? If they did it was probably 1998, if you don't count the World Series. I guess we'll just have to wait for the next Gaslamp Ballmanac entry or you can figure it out for yourself.
