Padres 6, Dodgers 3: Stults hits three run homer

Stephen Dunn

I really wanted to watch this game tonight, with all the build up, but I only saw about 2 innings worth. I had to play in a rec league softball game. Not much commentary tonight because I wasn't following along. You know who was following along? Dex. He should have volunteered to do the recap, don't you think?

2nd Inning

With one out Alexi Amarista walked to first. With two outs Cameron Maybin singled on a line drive to center field. That's when the magic happened, starting pitcher Eric Stults hit his first home run ever. It was a fly ball to left center field that scored 3 runs. I actually saw this part, it was glorious. Jackie Robinson would have been so proud.

3-0 Padres

3rd Inning

In the 3rd the Dodgers got on the board. Carl Crawford singled to left field. Matt Kemp did the same thing a batter later. Adrian Gonzalez hit a ground rule double on a line drive to right-center field that scored Crawford.

3-1 Dodgers

4th Inning

Luis Cruz started off the 4th on a ground ball to left. Pitcher Chad Billingsley hit a sac bunt advancing Cruz to 2B. Carl Crawford came up next and singled, scoring Cruz.

5th Inning

Matt Kemp doubled on a line drive to center. A.J. Ellis singed on a ground ball to right field scoring Matt Kemp to tie the game. Ellis advanced on a balk but was left on base.

7th Inning

In the 7th the Padres got down to business. They loaded the bases on a Cameron Maybin walk, a Jesus Guzman single and an Everth Cabrera walk. Chris Denorfia came to the plate and battled. He was fouling off pitches like a mad man, eventually drawing an RBI walk. Yonder Alonso spoiled the party by grounding into a double play but Guzman came in to score.

5-3 Padres

9th Inning

Everth Cabrera drew a one out walk. Denorfia singled, sending Cabrera to 3B. Kyle Blanks eventually came up and hit a sacrifice fly making for an exciting play at the plate. Cabrera kicked the ball away, I saw this part too.

Final: 6-3 Padres

Good win, wish I could have seen it. The 5 game losing streak is over!
