Rockies 2, Padres 1: Thayer Takes Loss In Pitchers' Duel

The Padres have been swept twice by the Rockies. If that makes you want to drink, I understand.

Remember how sexy Clayton Richard was Thursday night when he kept Matt Kemp (who, by the way, still hasn't been suspended) from ruining his fancy clothes by attacking Quentin? He was even sexier on the mound today, allowing two hits over six scoreless innings while striking out four. Unfortunately for the Padres, Jorge De La Rosa was just as good. The game was scoreless until the seventh, when Todd Helton took Dale Thayer deep. The good guys trailed 2-0 going into the bottom of the ninth when Rafael Betancourt took the mound. He couldn't find the plate and walked the first two batters. A sacrifice bunt moved them to second and third, followed by a sacrifice fly to score Cabrera. The speedy Kyle Blanks made his return to the big leagues pinch running for Yonder Alonso, but went nowhere as Nick Hundley struck out to end the game.

Tensions will be high tomorrow when the Padres head to Chavez Ravine to take on the Dodgers. Carlos Quentin will stay home serving his suspension and Zack Greinke will be recovering from surgery, so the only troublemaker on the field will be Matt Kemp (who still hasn't been suspended).
