Game 12 Preview: Padres vs. Rockies

Clayton Richard will try to end the Padres' losing streak in today's series finale against the Rockies.

Denis Poroy

Today, Clayton Richard is tasked with helping the Padres get their first win in five games and salvaging a victory in the series against Colorado. In his third start, Richard will try to return to his 2012 form and rebound from two bad starts to begin his season. In addition to improving on his 2013 record, Richard will also be looking to improve on his lifetime record against the Rockies. He is 2-4 with a 5.68 ERA through 11 career starts against Colorado. Although he kept the Dodgers to just two runs in the Padres home opener, Richard allowed nine of the first 15 batters he faced to reach base safely, and he only lasted five innings. The team really needs him to pitch deep into the game today and give our bullpen some much needed rest.

The Rockies will counter with Jorge De La Rosa as they try to stay undefeated in the series. In his last start, against the Giants, De La Rosa tossed six innings, allowing a three-run homer in the first innings but then settling down and preventing any further damage. He has a 4-2 lifetime record against San Diego and is undefeated (4-0) over his last five starts against them.
