Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres, Zack Greinke breaks collarbone during benches clearing brawl

Let's get this out of the way...

Zach Greinke suffered a fractured left collarbone. Nobody's allowed to feel good about that.

The break appears to happen in that move where he rears up and leans a shoulder into the big Mexican guy running as hard as he can in his direction. It is remarkable considering the fact that Carlos Quentin is on the Padres and the way these things typically work out (for the team and Carlos in particular), that Quentin's apparently unharmed.

Incidentally, if a picture is worth a thousand words, what's an animated GIF worth?

So that happened in the middle of the game and, as you can see, many San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers ran out there and there was hubbub etc.

Luke Gregerson pitched one inning to give up a single home run and was tagged with the loss. This came two days after pitching one pitch and being awarded the win. This leads me to postulate:

Baseball Stats are simultaneously the most informative and least informative numbers in the universe

So back to the fight. If you think that a single pitcher hitting a single batter three times over the course of their careers is excessive (or you're a Padres fan), then maybe you're on Carlos Quentin's side.

If you're the kind of person that figures it's a 3-2 count in a 2-1 game and maybe it's not necessarily the opportune time to hit a batter because you don't like him then you're probably figuring Zack Greinke is out for a really ridiculous reason and that reason is an angry Carlos Quentin.

After the game, the Dodgers postgame defended Greinke's decision to not run away and instead to try to lower his shoulder into Carlos Quentin, calling Greinke a "champion" for being so brave (or something). Speaking totally honestly here... it's really really really OK for Zack Greinke to NOT drop the shoulder there. I think Dodger Fan would agree that they'd rather have the funny image of Greinke running away from Carlos Quentin than the present situation.

Crazy game.

More ruckus after the game. This is some kinda start to the Padres/Dodgers season for 2013.

Players just ran out of Dodgers clubhouse...appears Matt Kemp and Carlos Quentin went after it in players parking lot
