Padres pitchers kept the A's down for nine innings and the offense was strong all along, culminating in a 10-0 final score.
San Diego jumped to an early lead in the bottom of the first. Alexi Amarista and Chase Headley got it flowing with one-out singles and Yonder Alonso picked up his first RBI of the day with a groundout. Kyle Blanks and Nick Hundley added back to back doubles to make it 3-0.
Jonathan Galvez and Travis Buck hit solo homers in the second and fourth innings to make it 5-0 and Yonder tacked on another pair in the fifth with an absolute bomb down the right field line after a double by Sexy 'lexi. Substitutions were aplenty for both teams in the sixth. Travis Jankowski pinch ran for the other Travis and scored a run on a wild pitch. Galvez singled, James Darnell got a pinch-hit hit by pitch, and Jeudy Valdez pinch-walked to load the bases. Gregorio Petit was summoned to bat in Chase's stead, out of the mercy of Bud Black's heart. He walked to make the score 9-0. The Padres would put one last run on the board in the seventh when Kyle Gaedele scored on a Maxx Tissenbaum groundout.
On the pitching side of things, Tyson Ross started and kept Oakland batters all mixed up. He allowed two hits over three innings, striking out three He gave up one walk but didn't make the same mistake twice. Donn Roach followed with two hitless innings, walking one batter and striking out another. His vaunted sinker was on point, inducing one weak ground ball after another.
Four other pitchers each threw a scoreless inning to help the cause. Huston Street and Miles Mikolas each allowed one hit and registered a strikeout. Brad Boxberger and San Diegan Sean O'Sullivan finished it up with a hitless inning each.
