Padres blown out. Marquis and Cashner pitch well.

USA TODAY Sports

Jason Marquis started the game and dominated the Cubbies. He threw 4 scoreless innings. Padres Broadcaster Bob Scanlan said he looked "sharp" and ready for the season.

Mark Kotsay hit a double on a line drive to right field that scored Jaff Decker and Travis Buck in the bottom of the third. The Padres had an early lead. 2-0 Padres.

Tim Stauffer came in in relief and pitched a scoreless 5th. In the 6th, however, Alfonso Soriano hit a 2 run double off him, followed quickly by a 2 run homer by Dioner Navarro. 4-2 Cubs.

In the 7th there were about a billion substitutions. It was like little league where everyone was getting a chance to play. One of those substitutions was Andrew Cashner, making his first appearance of the Spring. He threw mostly fastball and retired the Cubs in order with one strikeout.

In the 8th inning the wheels came off. Dale Thayer gave up a solo shot, an RBI single, a sac fly and another solo shot. The score was now 9-2 Cubs.

An RBI single by Yasmani Grandal in the 9th made the final score 9-3 Cubs.
