- Padres right-hander Andrew Cashner caps year with Performance of Month Award
If I understand this Head & Shoulders sponsored award correctly, it is for the single best scalp tingling performance for a pitcher during September, not for overall performance in the month. Andrew Cashner's one-hitter clinched the award and helped him beat out a no-hitter by some other player. No word yet on who won the Genitrex pubic lice shampoo award for the month, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. - Voting underway for MLB's Hank Aaron Award
Will Venable will just have to be satisfied with his nomination because there ain't no way he deserves offensive player of the year for the National League when competing with guys like Paul Goldschmidt and Andrew McCutchen. Still you can waste your vote on him if you want. Tony Gwynn is on a panel of judges that are also voting for the award, so I'm not sure why we should even bother voting at all. - San Diego Padres' Jedd Gyorko named to Baseball America's rookie team
Second baseman Jedd Gyorko was named to Baseball America's 2013 Major League All-Rookie Team on Friday. I'd like to see this team actually play. Maybe they could compete against a team of players who are retiring this year. - Arizona Fall League is gearing for its inaugural Bowman Hitting Challenge
Tommy Medica will be competing in the Arizona Fall League's inaugural Bowman Hitting Challenge Oct. 12 at Salt River Fields. This hitting challenge sounds slightly more interesting than a homerun challenge but also kind of ridiculous with players trying to hit a weird set of targets.Oversized trading cards, an outfielder on a trampoline and a moving human sphere will be among the targets.
