A three-game win streak at Coors Field came to an end last night as the Rockies piled on nine runs to our one. With the series now even at 1-1, Casey Kelly will try to follow up his big league debut by locking up the series in today's rubber match.
Last Monday, Kelly kept the Braves off the board and limited their offense to just three hits on his way to a victorious major league debut. A year ago, he threw a simulated game in Colorado, so pitching at Coors Field won't exactly be brand new to him. Behind Kelly, our Padres will try to bounce back from their 9-1 loss to take their fourth series in a row.
Our offense will face off against southpaw Jeff Francis. Like Kelly, Francis also kept his opponents scoreless and gave up only three hits his last time out when he faced the Dodgers. He has made two starts against us this season and went 1-0 in those outings. On June 19th, he kept our Padres to one run on three hits in six innings at Coors Field as the Rockies went on to a 10-2 win. On July 21st, Francis traveled to Petco Park, where he surrendered five runs on eight hits in five innings, although he didn't factor into the decision in Colorado's 8-6 extra-inning win. All-time, he is 6-13 with a 5.52 ERA against San Diego.
