Game Thread: 08/03 Padres vs. Mets

After going 3-7 on the road trip, losing three straight series, our Padres return to Petco Park tonight to try to earn their first win of August as they kick off a six-game homestand.

The Mets are in town and tonight they'll send R.A. Dickey and his knuckleball to the mound to try to get his MLB-leading 15th win. He has already pitched a gem against our boys earlier this season when we traveled to Citi Field in May. There, he pitched 7 1/3 scoreless and went on to win the 2-0 decision, striking out 10 Padres batters along the way.

Our Friars will counter with Clayton Richard, who lost in his start against the Mets during that series in New York. He allowed four runs on five hits, giving up two home runs and walking three in his six innings of work. Richard has a .500 record in his last 15 starts, thanks in part to a resurging offense that has won or at least kept our Padres in close games lately and given fans a reason to believe in this team again. If Richard can get through the early innings, which has been tough for Padres pitchers this season, and keep the Mets off the board, our offense can and will come through for him.

Like jecazador said in his series preview, there are a few good reasons to feel good about these three games against the Mets. Our boys just need to capitalize and play like we know they can.

GO FRIARS!! KEEP THE FAITH!!
