Now back to your usually scheduled Jodes Game Thread -Dex
Our August didn't get off to the greatest start yesterday as our Padres dropped their second game of the series to the Reds. This morning we'll have another shot at a series split in our finale at GABP.
Ross Ohlendorf goes for his fourth win today. He is 1-1 in his three starts since rejoining the rotation in July and all three of those outings have been quality starts. His lifetime record against Cincinnati is 1-3 so he'll try to improve upon that today. Hopefully Chase Headley, who drove in three runs in yesterday's loss, and the rest of our lineup can get some runs on the board for Ohledorf to work with as he tries to keep the Reds at bay today.
It'll be a lot to ask, however, against Cincy's starter, Johnny Cueto. He will be going for his fifth straight win, a feat he has already accomplished once this season. He got the win in his last start, despite not having his sharpest stuff. He gave up five runs on ten hits in six innings at Coors Field, but the Reds went on to win 9-7 and Cueto got his career-high ninth win of the season. He faced our Padres earlier this month at Petco Park, giving up two runs in 5 2/3 innings to earn his first career win in four tries against San Diego. Today he'll try to add a second win and extend his win streak to ten.
We may see rookie catcher Eddy Rodriguez make his major league starting debut behind the plate today. As a former draft pick of the Reds in 2005, Rodriguez will be returning to the home of the team who gave him his beginnings in baseball. We'll see if he can show us why he deserved to be called up and hopefully he will take advantage of this opportunity at the big league level while Yasmani Grandal is on the DL.
Let's get a win for birthday boy Huston Street!
GO FRIARS!! KEEP THE FAITH!!
