It was close yesterday, but our Padres came out on the losing end of a one-run game that evened up the series at a game apiece. Today we'll take on Bronson Arroyo and the Reds in game 3 of this four-game set. Arroyo pitched a gem against us on July 6th, a complete game three-hit shutout in San Diego where he struck out eight Padres batters. But in case he doesn't repeat a nine-inning appearance today, he'll have great reinforcements in the bullpen. Jonathan Broxton was acquired by the Reds yesterday and will be ready to come in to close the game if needed. Hopefully our Padres can refrain from having to face him by getting some runs off Arroyo while looking to our own starter to keep the Reds off the scoreboard.

Kip Wells will take the mound for our Friars and try to get us a win to open the month of August. He is coming off a solid outing in Miami where he allowed just two runs in six innings of work. Today he will make his eighth start as a Padres pitcher as he tries to improve upon his weak career record against the Reds. He is 2-11 all-time against Cincinatti so he will have to dig deep tonight and turn it around to help lead us to a victory. He was on the losing end of Arroyo's shutout on July 6th, but he didn't pitch too badly, giving up three runs in six innings.

We come into this game having lost three of our last four and looking to start August on a high note after going 15-11 in July, our best month of the season. A win tonight will ensure at least a series split and give us the advantage going into tomorrow's series finale.

GO FRIARS!! KIP THE FAITH!!
