Right Knee Tendonitis Disables Thatcher
The San Diego Padres have placed left-handed pitcher Joe Thacher on the 15-day disabled list and have recalled right-handed pitcher to take his place in the pen, according to the team (via Corey Brock of mlb.com):

Thatcher, 30, has seen twenty-six innings this season with the Padres, earning a 3.42 ERA across forty games. He's been effective for the club this season, striking out 9.4 while only giving up 3.4 walks every nine innings, both consistent with his career marks. Thatcher has six years of pro experience is averaging thirty-two innings per season, all with the Padres.
Boxberger, the 24 year-old righty recalled from Triple-A Tuscon, only has five Major League games under his belt, all of which have been with the Padres this season. Through six and a third innings, he's earned a 1.42 ERA, giving up five hits, seven walks, and two earned-runs while striking out eight. With three seasons of minor league experience, Boxberger owns a 3.60 career ERA.
