Padres Minor League Games Thread: 07/03

I've been trying to start writing this for about five minutes but Cora won't stop rubbing up on my lappy screen and making me pet her. I'm going to play ball with her until she gets tired out and then I'll come back and hammer out the game previews.

Fort Wayne Tin Caps @ Lake County Captains, 4:00pm: Ruben Mejia gets the ball for the 'Caps; he has a 3.89 ERA in 12 games with Fort Wayne, including 5 starts. He also pitched a perfect 2/3 of an inning for The Mish, striking out both AA batters he faced. Mejia will be matched up against Elvis Araujo who has racked up a 2-6 record with a 4.72 in his 16 games this season, all starts for the Captains.

San Antonio Missions v. Northwest Arkansas Naturals, 5:05pm: This one will probably be a double no-hitter because both of the starters have gotten rocked this season and baseball is weird like that. Keyvius Sampson will drag his 5.90 earnie out there for his 16th start for The Mish. He gave up 2 earned runs in 4 innings on a hit and 4 walks in his last start. Taking the hill for NWA will be Eazy- Ethan Hollingsworth. Batters have hit .330 against him this season.

Lake Elsinore Storm v. Bakersfield Blaze, 6:05pm: Mark Pope will make his 12th start for the Storm looking to lower his 5.38 ERA. In his last time out he gave up a run on 4 hits and a pair of walks in 3 innings. The Blaze will counter with Charlie Brown lookalike Daniel Renken. He's 4-3 with a 4.24 in 16 games, all starts and all with Bakersfield.

Eugene Emeralds @ Everett AquaSox, 7:05pm: Mean-muggin' Will Scott will do his best to terrify Everett batters tonight; let's hope his 5.14 ERA in 3 starts for the Ems is the product of a small sample size, not an indicator of things to come. South African born Dylan Unsworth gets the call for the AquaSox; he seems pretty good but whatever. On a very loosely related note, I used to have an AquaSox hat when I was like 13 or so. Remember that; it might come up on the test.

Tucson Padres v. Salt Lake Bees, 7:05pm: Good ol' Texas boy Bear Bay, who may or may not be an albino, is gonna go out there and do his darndest for the TuPads. His darndest hasn't seem to have been worth a darn so far; he's put together a 5.40 with the help of 8 home runs in 48 1/3 innings. The Bees' starter is Greg Smith, who has seen Major League action with the A's in '08 and the Rockies in '10.

Awesome, I made it through those without her leaving the windowsill. Her so presh.
