A crushing loss last night on a walk-off single gave our Padres their first series loss since coming off the All Star Break. Today we find ourselves trying to salvage a win before the off day tomorrow.

Jason Marquis will make the start in today's getaway game, seeking his third consecutive win. He made his Padres debut against the Giants on June 7. In that game, he gave up two earned runs in six innings for the loss. He has allowed no more than three earned runs in his last three starts. Most recently, he was tagged for three earned runs (five runs total) against the Rockies on Friday, but was backed by a strong offensive showing that gave him the win. Marquis is 5-9 in 16 starts this season and will try to improve on that record by helping our team get back in the win column.

Our boys will face Tim Lincecum, who despite not pitching as well as expected this season, has been consistenly dominant against our Padres, going 1-0 in two starts against us. In those two starts, he pitched a total of 14 innings and gave up a combined four earned runs on eight hits while striking out 13 Padres batters. Today's game will mark his 21st start against San Diego, which is his most against any team. He is coming off a great start against the Phillies in which he gave up just two earned runs on five hits and lasted seven strong innings to earn the win.

Alexi Amarista remains out of the lineup today after injuring his left thumb in Monday night's game. But he's reportedly doing well and didn't need an MRI. Will Venable will lead off, playing center, and John Baker will make the start behind the plate. Here's the rest of the lineup:

GO FRIARS!! KEEP THE FAITH!!
