It took over 24 innings, but our bullpen finally faltered last night in a heartbreaking extra inning loss to Colorado.
Our Padres took an early 3-0 lead, and then Kip Wells soon gave it up by allowing four runs in the 4th and then 2 runs in the 5th. Down by three runs, our Padres rallies back. In the bottom of the 5th they scored two to cut the deficit to one run, and then in the eighth inning Yasmani Grandal came through with a game-tying RBI single.
That was the last we saw of our offense, though. They failed to score any more runs through the 12th inning, and Joe Thatcher ended our bullpen's 24 1/3 inning scoreless streak by giving up back-to-back RBI singles in the 12th. Rafael Betancourt came in and shut down our Padres in order in the bottom of the inning and the Rockies stood victorious as the Verizon Summer Sky Blast lit up the downtown sky at Petco Park.
