Thanks to another fantastic offensive showing last night, our Padres will have the chance to clinch their third straight series win tonight as they take on the Rockies in game 2 of the three-game series.
Kip Wells hopes for a repeat of his last outing against his former team. He put together seven scoreless innings at Coors Field a few weeks ago, giving up six hits, issuing two walks, and earning his first major league win in three years. He lost both of his last two starts, however, allowing a combined five earned runs on ten hits and eight walks in 10 1/3 innings. Tonight he'll make his fourth start as a Padre as he tries to help extend our win streak to five games.
The Rockies will send Jeff Francis to the mound to try to get themselves back in the win column. Francis has been a reliable starter for Colorado lately, giving up two or less earned runs in five of his last six starts and lasting at least five innings in seven straight starts dating back to June 15th.
With a win today, our Padres can put themselves at 4 1/2 games ahead of the Rockies in the division standings. Let the March to October continue!
7/21 lineup vs. @Rockies #Padres are 21-15 since June 9, tied with @Reds for 2nd best record in NL since June 9 twitter.com/Padres/status/…
