After another thrilling win yesterday under the San Diego sun, our Padres will go for the series win tonight in the finale of a 4-game series against the Astros.
Edinson Volquez will toe the rubber tonight, hoping for the same kind of run support that Clayton Richard and Ross Ohlendorf have received this series. Volquez has had it harder than anyone in the majors, having received the lowest average run support in the league this season. But he has been a consistent and reliable pitcher who has performed better than his 5-7 record shows. In his last outing, he gave up three earned runs on seven hits in five innings and four walks while striking out six in Los Angeles. Tonight he'll have an easier opponent in the Astros, who are 2-15 over their last 17 games.
Houston will send rookie Lucas Harrell to the mound to try to salvage a series split. Harrell found success against our Padres three weeks ago when he pitched a complete-game shutout at Minute Maid Park, giving up six hits and striking out seven. However, like the rest of his team, he has performed poorly away from home. His road record is 2-5 and he sports a 6.21 road ERA. Hopefully our Padres can give him just as much trouble as other opponents this season.
Here's how the team will line up tonight. Cameron Maybin, who was a late scratch yesterday with a sore wrist, remains out of the lineup tonight and Alexi Amarista will make the start in center.
