Padres Minor League Games Thread: 07/19

Fort Wayne Tin Caps @ Cedar Rapids Kernels, 4:35pm: Fort Wayne is aiming to put the series win in the books after shutting Cedar Rapids out 6-0 last night to take the opener. Adys Portillo goes to the mound with a 6-6 record and a stellar 1.89 ERA in 17 starts. Opposing batters are hitting .167 with 3 HR in his 85.2 innings of work.

San Antonio Missions @ Frisco RoughRiders, 5:00pm: The Missions head into the getaway game of a four game set up 2-1; they lost 4-3 last night after taking the first two contests. They'll try to avoid the split by sending Keyvius Sampson to the hill. Sampson hasn't put up the best numbers so far this season but he's still the same guy who was the Organizational Pitcher of the Year last year so you can never count him out..

Eugene Emeralds v. Boise Hawks, 7:05pm: The red hot Ems, winners of 8 of their last 9, begin a five game series against Boise tonight. Starting for Eugene will be Chris Wilkes, owner of a 1.17 ERA in 5 appearances as an Emerald. He was less successful in four outings with Lake Elsinore, wearing an ERA of 10.13. Both are ridiculously small sample sizes and ERA is kind of a stupid stat anyway so I basically just wasted your time by typing any of that. My bad; I owe you one.

Lake Elsinore Storm @ Rancho Cucamonga Quake, 7:05pm: Texan Burch Smith will get the start for Lake Elsinore in the rubber game. He's 9-4 with a 3.34 and is averaging about 10 strikeouts every 9 innings. Probably because he's from Texas; I hear if you can't throw 100 MPH they make you say you're from Oklahoma.

Tucson Padres v. Reno Aces, 7:05pm: The TuPads won last night after dropping a doubleheader on Monday. Jedd Gyorko was 0-3 with a walk and a run but his teammates picked up his rare slack and beat Reno 5-1. Jorge Reyes will have the chance tonight to even the series before they head to Sacramento for the first leg of a road trip.
