We now have our answer as who will replace Jeff Suppan as the Padres 5th starter. Another ex-Cardinal Jason Marquis will toe the slab in Thursday's finale with the Giants.

Marquis made one start with the San Antonio Missions after being signed by the Padres on May 29. He went 7 IP with 5 hits, 1 ER, 2 BBs and 5 Ks in that one start for the Friars' AA club. The Padres were able to sign him after he was waived by the Minnesota Twins. With the Twins he put up the following numbers:
I probably don't have to tell you that those aren't very good. He's put up better numbers in the past, so there's some hope for a turnaround. Darren Balsley always up for working some of his magic. It's also worth noting that this isn't a long term solution for the club. Marquis is only here to provide some veterany craftiness due to the plethora of injuries and the absence of any healthy, major league ready prospects. Marquis will be the 10th pitcher to start a game for the Padres this season.
No word yet on who will be taken off the 25 man roster to make room, but a 40 man roster move will need to be made as well. (Editor's note: Eric Stults was placed on the 15 day DL to make room on the 25 man roster. Jason Bartlett was moved from the 15 day to the 60 day DL to make room on the 40 man roster)
