Day 3 is going to consist of the 16th through 40th rounds and is the final day of the draft. At this point it's only one pick per team per round and the Padres will pick 7th in every remaining round.
Yesterday the Padres made 15 picks and you can see them all by looking at the 2012 MLB Draft Day 2 Open Thread. The team finally stepped away from taking pitchers and with the majority of those picks took position players. There were 2 or 3 bats chosen that would considered to have a fair amount of pop, but many of the players are athletes with some speed including 3 SSs, 2 other smallish INFs and a 5'9 CF. We can't be sure if this is part of a bigger strategy or if it's just a coincidence based on who is available, but it's interesting to note. The team also seemed to focus on players from the South. Georgia, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina and Kentucky all had representation in yesterday's picks.
