Ernesto Frieri for Alexi Amarista and Donn Roach trade is Fresh!

Like an independent movie in limited release there aren't too many opinions out there on the Ernesto Frieri for Alexi Amarista and Donn Roach trade. People on the internet are keeping their feelings really close to their chest on this one. Either they're afraid to be the first to voice an opinion or they don't care or too busy covering Mariano Rivera's injury. I believe the former. Cowards!

Of those opinions I did find everyone seems to look at it as a favorable move for both teams. The Angels need help in their bullpen and the Padres need someone to replace Hudson or Bartlett in the middle infield. I'm not sure if it will be Amarista, Parrino or Forsythe that eventually take over but Dan Hayes has reported that neither Bartlett or Hudson are in the Padres long term plans and will likely be gone before season's end.

I like this move, Frieri will be easily replaced and anybody that even has a shot at replacing our guys in the middle infield gets my seal of approval.

Without further ado...

I'll update the score if I find anything else. Share links if you find them and your own opinion in the comments. If his score doesn't change I propose we nickname Amarista, "The Fresh Prince".

Padres Trade Ernesto Frieri To Angels For Two Prospects - Bob Scanlan
I’m definitely going to miss The Big Ern, who was 3-3 with a 2.33 in 105 appearances with the Pads over the past 4 seasons, and was one of the most likable fun spirits you’ll ever have in a clubhouse. Who knows how Amarista and Roach will turn out, but with the addition of the Angels’ 12 and 16th rated prospects to their organization, the Padres conceivably added some depth that may help them in the very near term, and longer out as well. As with most trades, only time will reveal it’s true value to helping the Pads win games.

Padres trade Ernesto Frieri for Alexi Amarista and Donn Roach - Mickey Koke
Amarista, 23, is a versatile infielder who can play second, short and some left field. He has been characterized by some analysts as "dynamic." He has has gap power, plus speed and a high contact ratio at the plate (all of which the Padres are emphasizing).

The move should benefit both clubs as the Angels were looking for bullpen help.

PADRES: Trade of Frieri to Angels could affect middle infield : North County Times
The move gives the Padres more flexibility if they decide to release Hudson or Bartlett, both of whom have club options for 2013. Team sources have confirmed that neither player is in the Padres' long-term plans. Both could be released before the season ends.

Angels Trade for Ernesto Frieri, Send Amarista to Padres - Halos Heaven
"[Amarista] will get some playing time for the Padres this season for sure and in the future. Donn Roach is a good prospect but a couple of years away. Great ground ball ratio. [snip] He's not seasoned, he's not a veteran, Ernesto Frieri is."

Yes, I'm moving Amarista ahead of Cabrera on my depth chart.
