Bill Center reports for UTSanDiego.com that Cory Luebke will miss today's start due to tightness and soreness in the elbow.
“It kind of tightened up a bit in the fourth in San Francisco,” Luebke said Tuesday afternoon. “I started getting additional treatment that night. It’s significantly better. I’m happy the way it has responded to treatment.
“We’re being cautious and staying on top of this. It’s early. If this were September, I might have pitched with it.”
Jeff Suppan will make the start in his stead. He's 37 years old. That's 115 in baseball years and in most cases the MLB considers a player to be clinically dead at 35. To make it even more interesting Suppan hasn't started a Major League game since 2010. To give you a frame of reference, the last time Suppan pitched Barack Obama was president, the iPhone 4 was really popular and John Moores was trying to sell the Padres.
Center says that we should expect two moves this morning. First, Kyle Blanks will be put on the 60 day DL and then an unnamed pitcher will be taken off the 25 man roster. Let's guess who that pitcher will be.
UPDATE: Luebke put on 15 day DL
