They said it couldn't be done. The Padres with their paltry payroll. The Phillies spending enough money to buy the World Series Championship as one might buy a bottle of vanilla soy milk and a box of Fiber One.
And yet, here we are today.
Oh sure. It was a battle right till the end, but the Padres, using approximately 10% of their already bottom basement payroll defeated the Phillies who were just a little too brash and a little too confident.
Shane Victorino didn't let up. He's been a Padre. He knows what kind of heart these boys have. So he did everything he could to tame the beasts from San Diego with a 3-4 night including a double and a walk.
But the rest of them were stunned as the Padres marched all over them, like a boss, and evened up the series.
Like a boss.
