Padres lose to Nationals 7-2. Another series down the drain

And the Padres bid to actually win a series in the month of April continues. They'll have one more shot at it this weekend, but let's be honest, it probably won't happen.

In this game, Joe Wieland showed a bit of his youth once again, getting squeezed and not recovering well to give up a couple of runs early. The Padres offense really had every intention of trying to score some runs for Wieland, but the fences being what they are, they decided not to even try for them and instead, just kinda not do anything.

Orlando Hudson, who leads by example, hit a home run. Will Venable, who plays with dolphins, hit a double. Yonder Alonso, who doesn't realize that the fences haven't been moved in yet, also hit a warning track double.

I'm trying to think of where a game like this goes in the rankings. There was no real drama anywhere in the game and then we lost. If this were a movie, we never even got a chance to really identify with any of the characters. It's like a poorly done nature documentary about lions, except the Padres are a herd of zebra that the lions hunt. You feel bad for a few moments, but the documentary is about lions, so you know a few of the zebras are gonna get ate.

There's "bad" because the team plays bad. There's "bad" because the team gets screwed. And then there's "bad" wherein nothing entertaining happens.

Actually, I take that back. Yonder Alonso, on a heads up play, let a softly popped up bunt drop right in front of him, at which point he picked up the ball and fired it over to second for a force out and then the ball ended up at third for a tag out. Very heads up double play. If you were wondering why the infield fly rule wasn't in effect, Wonko points out the rule that says the infield fly rule cannot be called on obviously bunted balls (or line drives).

Maybe the team should just tap and not show up tomorrow.
