Kyle Blanks to have season ending surgery

Sucks to be Kyle Blanks. He's barely played in the last couple of years and then over the weekend he gets the bad news. The 6' 6" 272 pound Blanks was diagnosed 1/3rd ogre AND he needs labrum surgery.

Rob Neyer had a feeling that ogres have no business playing baseball:

I've had this theory for a long time that some baseball players just aren't built for baseball.

Blanks had been experiencing shoulder pain for at least a couple of months but the it was thought to be impingement due to inflammation. Team doctors were hoping that in time and a steady diet of anti-inflammatory and children he'd be able to play more than 6 games this season.

North County Times:

"We threw everything we gathered on the table, and it made sense to get it fixed," Blanks said. "It's not the end of the world. At the end of the day, it sucks. But there are other guys in the clubhouse who have gone the same thing and are successful."

So he'll be out 4-6 months. He says he's looking forward to Spring Training 2013. Just like some fairweather fans in San Diego.
