I hope everyone had a lovely off day. We will kick off the home series against the Diamondbacks tonight, facing them for the first time since the Jeff Moorad fiasco.
Trevor Cahill, who grew up in San Diego, will be on the mound for Arizona, making his debut with the team after playing for the Oakland A's from 2009 to 2011. Not only is he looking to start his Dbacks career with a solid start, he is also looking to help the team make franchise history by getting their first 4-0 season start ever. This will also be his first time playing his hometown team.
Our Padres will send Edinson Volquez to the hill to try to RUIN EVERYTHING for Arizona. Volquez' debut last Thursday wasn't exactly ideal. He cruised through the first three innings, but ran into trouble when he walked in two runs. However, he did strike out seven batters and gave up only three hits, so if he can get his control down and limit his walks, and our defense can get their stuff together, he can make things pretty difficult for the Dbacks.
Orlando Hudson is back in the starting lineup tonight after his absence on Sunday, which just happened to be our first win of the season. Coincidence? I don't think so. But hopefully we can overcome his presence on the field and in the batter's box tonight and pull together a solid showing against Arizona. And here's something that might make you feel better: if you thought our defense was atrocious, the Dbacks made five errors on Sunday. So despite their usually solid D, just know that they can be flaccid at times.
Trevor Cahill will probably have a good amount of family and friends in the crowd tonight. Hopefully that makes him super nervous and he pees his pants and it trickles down his leg to the pitching mound and everyone laughs at him.
Game tonight should be available to San Diegans without Cox/DirecTV if you have MLB Network. I think. HOORAY!
GO FRIARS!! KEEP THE FAITH!!
