I kinda didn't know that the GIBBY's existed. Maybe I knew of them in some part of my mind, but since Padres don't really win awards typically, I must not have given it much thought.
Except for now. Chase Headley wins the Breakout Hitter of the Year GIBBY.
This year's GIBBY Awards featured nominees in 21 categories. Individual honors went to the MLB MVP, in addition to the year's best starting pitcher, hitter, closer, setup man, rookie, breakout pitcher, comeback player, defensive player, manager, executive and postseason performer.
Headley led the NL with 115 RBIs to go with his 31 home runs and .286 batting average. He finished the season on a roll, capturing the NL Player of the Month awards in August and September.
In other news, a monkey that visited the Padres was nominated for the Cut4 category, which is the award they give to stuff that trends on social media or something. The monkey lost to Bryce Harper winking and saying, "that's a clown question, bro" in response to a reporter.
Like I said. Real awards.
