Mat Latos: "All I know is that I'm in the playoffs. They're home watching me."

I usually get really annoyed when ex-Padres comment about the team after they've left. For some reason Latos' comments don't really bother me as much, maybe because they're so cookie-cutter. "I'm in the playoffs and you're not." Good one.

The fact is that the Latos trade helped both clubs just as everyone predicted. The Reds got a talented starter and reaped the rewards in the short term. The Padres were able to fill several key positions and diversify their portfolio, lowering their risk of one player getting injured or not performing. Both teams got positive results from their acquisitions this season. The Reds made it to the playoffs though, so there was reason for Latos to gloat.

Eccentric Latos answers Reds' alert in nick of time

"Hey, whatever it means," Latos says, "we're all free spirits. We're not afraid. We don't want to be those cookie-cutters, those guys that sit in front of their locker and read a book or whatever. I went through that in San Diego.

I like that Latos sheds some light on the Padres clubhouse. Admit it, our players are boooooring. The clubhouse is a total void of personality and now we know why... books.

"I'm not going to say I didn't rub some guys the wrong way in San Diego. But you know what, I was 21 years old and in the big leagues. If I rubbed them the wrong way, or offended guys on that team, too bad.

Yeah, it's too bad that a player can't learn to get along with their teammates. By all accounts Latos totally rubbed his fellow Padres the wrong way. In fact he probably just did again with this quote. If these comments are any indication, this is why he didn't fit in, because he didn't want to. Then he gets all butt hurt and wonders why none of his teammates called him after he was traded. You can't have it both ways, dude.

Way to rub it in our faces like one would rub a towel full of shaving cream in a teammates face. For a free spirit he still seems to have a big chip on his shoulder with respect to the Padres. I kind of doubt his former teammates are even watching him, they probably have their noses buried in books.

I can't disagree though, things worked out pretty good for both teams.
