Game Thread: 9/06 Padres vs. Giants

I'm about to watch the Padres 2day and they're gonna look terrible. Something not worth reading after the jump...

Tonight we will see if the Padres can bounce back from yesterday's loss in game 2 against the San Francisco Giants. Yesterday, Tim Stauffer's pitching struggles continued as he allowed four runs on seven hits over six innings and took the loss. After starting the season off hot, allowing just eight home runs and posting an ERA of 2.96 in his first twenty starts, he has racked up an ERA of 7.92 and allowed 12 home runs in his last six starts. The Padres could not help him yesterday, only scoring two runs off Madison Bumgarner, who pitched a near-complete game.

Wade LeBlanc will try to prevent another losing streak as he takes the mound for the Padres tonight. He is coming off his second consecutive loss, but hopes to defend his undefeated 3-0 career against the Giants and lead the Padres to victory. He'll definitely need some help on the offensive side. Jesus Guzman has contributed hugely since he's started getting consistent playing time. Cameron Maybin came back to the lineup in yesterday's game, and was a welcome sight on the basepaths, collecting his 34th steal of the season. Chris Denorfia also returned yesterday, and Logan Forsythe, although not in the starting lineup, could make an appearance tonight after missing four consecutive games. Erik Hamren was recalled from Tucson today, so the Padres now have 33 men on the active roster. This should give us some flexibility on the bench and help with pinch-hitting situations.

Taking the mound for the Giants will be rookie Eric Surkamp, making his second major league start and looking for his first win. Despite allowing only one run on six hits over six innings in his debut against the Astros, he got the no-decision, so he's hoping the Giants will give him some run support like they gave Bumgarner yesterday. Despite yesterday's seven-run performance, the Giants offense has been lacking all season. They have struggled to score, but have been saved by a great starting rotation. They continued to keep their playoff hopes alive with their win yesterday, but the Diamondbacks won't seem to allow them to gain any ground. Hopefully the Padres won't help the Giants gain any ground either and can successfully play spoiler against a team and fanbase that has quickly risen to become one of the most hated in the league.

GO FRIARS!! KEEP THE FAITH!! RUIN EVERYTHING!!
