Game Thread: 9/05 Padres vs. Giants

After finally getting back in the win column yesterday, the Padres will now face a plummeting Giants team that is now seven games behind the Diamondbacks in the NL West. With 22 games left in the regular season, the Giants are in now-or-never mode. They will face only NL West teams for the rest of the season and it looks to be an uphill battle for them. The Padres will try to make that hill even steeper for them this series.

We hope to play spoiler to the Giants this series and essentially yank their playoff hopes away from them. Thankfully we were able to snap a nine-game losing streak yesterday, so winning doesn't seem entirely out of the question like it did a couple of days ago. Tim Stauffer will try to rebound from a horrible start at Dodger Stadium, in which he gave up seven earned runs in just 1 2/3 innings pitched. He has been a solid starter for us for most of the season, so hopefully his recent struggles are temporary and he gets back to his dominant self. On the offensive side, Cameron Maybin and Chris Denorfia will both return to the lineup today. Maybin will lead off and Denorfia will make the start in right.

On the mound for San Francisco, Madison Bumgarner looks to keep his team's playoff hopes alive. He is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in three starts against the Padres this season, but is coming off a fantastic outing in which he gave up only two hits in eight scoreless innings while striking out 11 batters. The Giants are coming into this game after dropping two of three to the Diamondbacks and going 5-7 on their homestand. They've dug themselves into a seven-game hole in the NL West standings and have their season on the line against the Padres.

We are 5-7 against the Giants this season. I don't know about you guys, but I'm pulling for a sweep to put us on top of the Giants in the season series. It would be great if the Padres could put one of the final nails in the coffin of the Giants' season and frustrate the hell out of Giants fans more than we already do.

GO FRIARS!! KEEP THE FAITH!! RUIN EVERYTHING!!
