Game Thread: 9/04 Padres vs. Rockies

Here we are, on the precipice of a ten-game losing streak. Despite our current place in the standings, this is all just too reminiscent of last season's ten-game slide. It hurts. But if I stopped watching this team when it's at its worst and when they need the most support, I wouldn't be jodes. So I had a good breakfast this morning and now I'm ready to cheer on my Padres to victory!

We will send Mat Latos to the mound to right this sinking ship. Despite his record, he has been very solid and consistent for us on the mound since the beginning of July. Nine of his last 11 outings have been quality starts. In that span, he has had at least five strikeouts in all but one start and he has allowed more than five hits only twice.

Unlike Latos, Rockies starter Aaron Cook has been unable to hit his stride and find consistency. He has had a rough season that started with a 2-month long DL stint, and just hasn't found a groove. However, he does tend to pitch well against the Padres, against whom he has racked up a 7-1 record in 12 career starts.

Our offense can't continue to play the way they have during this nine-game skid. We need to get runners home so our pitching staff can have some breathing room and dominate to their potential. We saw some glimmers of good offense yesterday, so hopefully that continues today for Latos. The last Sunday day game at Petco Park was arguably the best game of the year and it resulted in a four-game sweep of the Marlins. I wish we could have bottled the energy of the whole Padres community that day and fed it to the team so they could remember what it's like to win and to have the support of so many fans. It's been a while since they've had that feeling. So here's to getting that feeling back, ending this ridiculous slump, and getting back in the win column. FOR THE MILITARY, AND FOR BREAKFASTTOWN!

GO FRIARS!! KEEP THE FAITH!!
