Game Thread: 9/18 Padres vs. Diamondbacks

Once again, the Padres were able to hold off the Diamondbacks as Wade LeBlanc led us to another great win yesterday, securing the series for the Padres. Our pitching staff limited Arizona to just one run on five hits. LeBlanc pitched six solid innings, over which he struck out four and walked three. He gave up a solo home run to the second batter he pitched, but after that only allowed three other hits. Orlando Hudson and Jeremy Hermida both homered in the 3-1 victory. Yesterday marked the first time the Padres have won consecutive games since August 21st -23rd.

The Dbacks will send Joe Saunders to the hill today to try to prevent the sweep and keep the surging Giants at bay. Arizona's lead in the NL West has dwindled to five games with ten games left. They've lost three in a row while San Francisco is on a seven-game win streak. Saunders hopes for a repeat of his last performance against the Padres, when he pitched a solid seven innings and limited us to just one run (unearned) on August 27th.

Aaron Harang will play for redemption for that same game on August 27th. He pitched six innings in that start and was tagged with a loss due to two unearned runs. The Padres haven't been able to give him much run support lately, scoring only seven runs in his last four starts. Before that, the Padres averaged 5.7 runs per game for Harang.

A win today would give us our first sweep since taking four from the Marlins August 18th-21st. Unfortunately, the Padres Nation right now is a Lonely Nation, and most people will be too busy watching the Chargers game to notice. THEIR LOSS. Personally, I plan on watching both and hopefully celebrating an UNDEFEATED SAN DIEGO SPORTS (Padres, Aztecs, Chargers) WEEKEND.
