Game Thread: 8/20 Padres vs. Marlins

Today we go for our third win in a row against the Marlins and try to clinch the series. Last night, LeBlanc held the Marlins to two runs and then ran into trouble in the 6th, when he loaded the bases with one out. Buddy Black brought in Erik Hamren to clean up the mess, and he was able to limit the damage to one run after inheriting LeBlanc's baserunners. Then the rest of our bullpen shut down the Mariners in the final three frames, with Heath Bell collecting his 34th save of the season. Offensively, our young team was able to handle their bats and get some runs in. Cameron Maybin continued to show Florida what they gave up, collecting his 11th hit, an RBI single in the 1st inning, in 20 at-bats against his former team. Kyle Blanks hit a monster 2-run homer in the 4th to give us the lead, which we never relinquished.

Today we will see a familiar face on the mound for the Marlins. Former Padre Clay Hensley will make his first start in San Diego since 2008. After a stint on the disabled list earlier this year, he transitioned from the Marlins bullpen to the starting rotation and has gone 1-2 with a 4.99 ERA in six starts. The Marlins will be welcoming the return of Omar Infante from the DL today. Infante, hitting second in the lineup today, is batting .411 since the All Star Break and has had stellar defense all season. Mike Stanton will also return to the lineup today after being scratched yesterday. Stanton has homered four times in the past five games, and hopes to continue his hot hitting today.

Aaron Harang will try to shut down the Marlins offense after struggling in his last start. He gave up four runs on eight hits against the Mets on Monday. He looks to return to his winning ways and lead us to the win today. Harang is 11-3 on the season and has been one of our more solid pitchers. Hopefully our offense can continue hitting well, give him some run support, and prevent the Marlins from getting their first win of the season against us.

GO FRIARS!! KEEP THE FAITH!!
