Game Thread: 8/17 Padres vs. Mets

In case you didn't hear, our Padres DOMINATED the Mets last night. It was a fun, exciting game full of awesome hitting and awesome pitching, with some defense thrown in there as well.

Today we've got some day baseball coming our way. I'm gonna go ahead and say that there is no better place in the world to enjoy an afternoon baseball game than in America's finest city: our beautiful, sunny, perfect San Diego. With that said, I'll be watching the game from my couch at home.

Mat Latos will take the mound in the rubber game of this series. He has been solid lately and hopes to have another strong pitching performance today and lead us to a series victory. In his last three starts he has combined for 21 innings while allowing just five earned runs. He has allowed no more than three earned runs in each of his last nine starts. He seems to be getting closer to his 2010 form, pitching more aggressively and with more confidence on the mound. Our offense has shown improvements lately too. Players like Jesus Guzman and Cameron Maybin continue to excite us with their bats every night.

But Mets starting pitcher Dillon Gee will try to quiet those bats today, as well as break out of his recent slump. He is coming into this game having gone 3-4 with a 5.61 ERA in his last seven starts. In his last outing, he pitched only five innings and allowed four runs on five hits.

We have never lost a series to the Mets at home. Tonight will not be the night to make history in that regard. Also, the motherf_cking SAN DIEGO CHICKEN is at Petco Park tonight. All those signs point to WIN.

Catch today's game on XX1090 or for free on MLB.TV (no Channel 4 broadcast).

GO FRIARS!! KEEP THE FAITH!!
