Once again, our Padres landed on the wrong side of a one-run game last night. Tim Stauffer pitched one bad inning that our offense could not overcome in the 2-3 loss to the Rockies. In the top of the 2nd, with runners on second and third, Stauffer balked to give the Rockies their third run of the inning, and what ended up being the deciding run of the game. Outside of the second inning, when he allowed three runs on four hits and the balk, he pitched five scoreless innings and limited the Rockies to just four other hits. Our offense was just unable to get to Rockies starter Jason Hammel and help him turn his quality start into a win. Cameron Maybin and Orlando Hudson had great games, combining for 2 runs and going 5-for-9, but they didn't get much help from the rest of the lineup. We had a chance in the 7th inning when we loaded the bases with two outs, but Ryan Ludwick popped out to end the inning.
Today we will attempt to get back on the winning track behind our hometown hero Aaron Harang. He has won his last five decisions, including his last two starts. Opposing pitcher, Ubaldo Jimenez, is coming off a loss against Arizona in which he allowed five earned runs in five innings. In his last start in San Diego, Jimenez, allowed two runs over seven innings, which was enough for the loss.
We have lost three straight games to the Rockies and are 4-6 against them this season. Hopefully we can turn it around tonight and bring some joy back to the Friar Faithful. Amid all the trade talk, it would be nice to get a win to distract me from the reality of probably having a HEATERLESS clubhouse in the very near future. MWG!
If you're going to the game tonight, make sure to bring some new or gently used shoes to donate to the Soles4Souls drive at Petco Park and help some San Diegans in need!
GO FRIARS!! KEEP THE FAITH!!
