Game Thread: 7/28 Padres vs. Diamondbacks

Last night's loss was another frustrating one. Our Padres led the game in the fifth when Will Venable tripled to bring in two runs. But the Dbacks put up three runs in the 6th and 7th, including a two-run shot by Xavier Nady that was fairly close to being caught by Will Venable, but landed in the hands of a fan instead. Luis Martinez then launched a solo homer, his first major league hit, in the bottom of the 7th, to get us to within a run. But no more scoring took place after that and we surrendered the series to Arizona. The game ended when Orlando Hudson successfully stole second base with two outs in the ninth, but second base umpire Angel Campos called him out and Hudson laughed his way back to the dugout. I'm sure if you watch the replay, you'll laugh too.

Our Padres will try to salvage a win and avoid a sweep today. Mat Latos will take the mound and try to get back in the win column after getting a no-decision in his last start. Daniel Hudson, who has had a standout year so far, will make the start for Arizona. He is 10-6 through 21 starts, including two complete games. He has held the Padres to one run in two starts (17 innings) this season, so we hope to turn that around in today's day game.
