After salvaging a win to prevent the sweep yesterday in Philly, our Padres begin a nine-game homestand tonight, starting with a series against the Diamondbacks. Dustin Moseley makes the start tonight for San Diego. He won his last start, giving up three earned runs in six innings against the Marlins. He continues to be a consistently strong pitcher for us, but has yet to win back-to-back wins this season, ranking second lowest in the Majors in run support. Hopefully we can scrape some runs together tonight to give him his first set of consecutive wins.
The D-backs will send southpaw Joe Saunders to the mound to try to prevent that from happening. One of the keys for our offense to be successful against him is to try to get runs on the board early. In 20 starts, Saunders has given up 17 runs in the first inning. He also has had trouble against leadoff hitters, so we'll be looking for some production from Cameron Maybin in the leadoff spot.
Oh, and in case you didn't hear, Padres sent Kyle Phillips to Tucson and Ernesto Frieri went on paternity leave today. Luis Martinez and Pat Neshek were called up.
[Note by jodes0405, 07/26/11 6:31 PM PDT ] I just found out my brother in law is hosting a suite at Petco Park for his company tonight. He just texted me and said Steve Garvey was there. I wonder how badly Garvey wishes he was at Chavez Latrine instead. I bet he'll be using the tv in the suite to watch the Dodgers-Rockies game. GO ROCKIES.
MOSELEY IS OUR KING!!
GO FRIARS!! KEEP THE FAITH!!
