Last night wasn't the the way we wanted to start this ten-game road trip. Our Padres got shutout for the 13th time and lost their fourth game in four tries against the Mariners this season. Dustin Moseley, who has been very consistent for us up to this point, couldn't seem to find his command and found himself pitching behind in the count a lot. Our offense struggled to find a rhythm, just as they have all season against Seattle. Hopefully they turn it around today and finally get that first win.
Cory Luebke will make his second start since moving from the bullpen to the starting rotation. Against the Braves, he pitched five shutout innings and struck out six batters in 75 pitches. Chase Headley hopes to continue swinging a hot bat to back up Luebke. He made three of the six Padres hits in last night's game and has been dominant against American League pitchers this season, hitting .429 in interleague games.
Seattle starter Doug Fister will try to quiet Headley's bat and earn himself his first start in six tries. Although he's pitched well, he hasn't gotten the run support needed to win, something we are obviously accustomed to. Tonight we will see whose offense will be able to come through for their pitcher.
GO FRIARS! KEEP THE FAITH!!
