Game Thread: 7/10 Padres @ Dodgers

MWG! WE. WILL. NOT. BE. SWEPT.

We will close out the first half of the 2011 regular season today as we try to salvage both a win and our dignity in Los Angeles. It's been a rough four-game stretch, losing two one-run games to the Giants and then wasting spectacular Padres pitching by getting shut out twice by the Dodgers.

Today we send Tim Stauffer to the mound to continue his fantastic season. We can only hope that our offense finally has it in them to put some runs on the board. Otherwise we will go into the All Star Break back in last place and back out of the minds of many San Diego sports fans.

The Dodgers will look to Ted Lilly to lead them to a win going into the Break. Elbow soreness caused his last start to be pushed back, so he is coming into this game with an extra day of rest. He has good career numbers against our Padres (lifetime record of 7-3 with a 3.00 ERA), but we hope to get fired up today and prevent the sweep.

I know it's hard to keep watching this team. I don't blame people for falling off the bandwagon. But I'm gonna be here until the end, as torturing as it may be, and I hope some of you guys will stick around so I'm not talking to myself in the game threads for the rest of the season. Call me a sucker, but I still believe we can turn it around and, at the very least, make the rest of the season fun to watch, whether we are contending or not.
