Game Thread: 6/8 Padres vs. Rockies

No official announcement on Rizzo before the game. ~ Could happen after game or tomorrow ... or whenever. #Padres #HangWithEmless than a minute ago via TweetDeck Favorite Retweet Reply

Good afternoon! I know everyone is all caught up in the Rizzo hype [I know I am], but let's not forget that we have a rubber match today against the Rockies. The Padres evened the series up last night, thanks in most part to a phenomenal outing by Tim Stauffer. Today we will try to make it two series wins in a row and improve to 2-5 in this current homestand.

Aaron Cook will return to the mound today for Colorado, fresh off the DL and making his first start of the 2011 season. Our Padres need to take advantage of this situation because Cook is 7-1 in 11 starts at Petco Park. We will also need another good start from Dustin Moseley. Although he is only 2-6, Moseley is our most consistent starter. He has allowed 3 or fewer runs in 10 of his 12 starts and is coming off a fantastic outing against the Astros, in which he only allowed one run on six hits in seven innings.

Moseley still has the lowest average run support in the National League, but hopefully our Padres can score some for him today. So far this homestand has shown a lot of improvement. We've been hitting better and for the most part cut down on the errors. The team just looks a lot more like what people expected at the start of the season. We've gone 9-4 in our last 13 games and our pitching has been great.

This series, and this game could be a turning point for the season. Back-to-back series wins would definitely be huge for us, and a win today would bring us out of last place. Add the fact that Anthony Rizzo is being activated tomorrow, and it's hard not to have a positive outlook on the rest of the homestand.

Today's game won't be on channel 4, but you can catch it for free on MLB.TV or on the radio.
