With yesterday's 6-3 victory, the Padres have secured at least a series split against the Astros. Aaron Harang got the win and improved to 6-2 on the season. He allowed two earned runs on six hits in 6 2/3 innings before giving it over to the bullpen. In the ninth, Ernesto Frieri walked the leadoff hitter and allowed a single, so Heath bell was brought in for the save, his 16th of the season.
Chase Headley continued his hot streak, singling and scoring on a Brad Hawpe 2-RBI double in the first inning. Logan Forsythe misplayed a ball in the second inning, which led to an Astros run. They tied the game in the top of the third on a Clint Barmes solo homer, but we answered with a run of our own when Logan Forsythe doubled to score Ryan Ludwick from third. Our next hits didn't come until the bottom of the eighth, when we scored three runs to secure the win.
Yesterday's six runs were the most scored by the Padres since the beginning of May. Also, it was the first time this season that we have won consecutive games at home. Can we make it three in a row today?
Our offense finally seems to be clicking and putting together good at-bats. Hopefully that continues today when we face Jordan Lyles, who made his major league debut on Tuesday. At 20 years old, he is the youngest player in the majors. In his debut he allowed just two runs on five hits in seven innings of work against the Cubs. Everyone will be watching to see if he can top that today in pitcher-friendly Petco Park. Padres send Mat Latos to the mound, who won his last two starts after starting the season 0-5. Latos is 2-1 with a 2.01 ERA in his career against Houston.
The game will not be televised today, so catch it on the 1090.
GO FRIARS!! KEEP THE FAITH!!
