In game 2 against the Red Sox, we will once again go for our first win in interleague play this season. After yesterday's disastrous loss, we need that win more than anything.
We have dropped nine of our last ten games and are 1-6 so far on this road trip. Mat Latos will do his best to turn that around today and end his own two-game losing streak. In interleague games, Latos is 3-1 with a 2.45 ERA in his career. However, this will be his first career start against the Red Sox.
Boston will send Alfredo Aceves to the mound in place of Josh Beckett, who is sick with a stomach illness. Aceves' last spot start was a rough one, in which he allowed a career-high eight runs to the White Sox. Our Padres hope he will continue that trend today and try to take advantage. They were able to score five runs yesterday, despite the loss, so it isn't too ridiculous of a thought. As long as Mat can keep the damage to a minimum, I don't think a win today is too far-fetched.
Let's forget yesterday and focus on today. I know a lot of you don't think it's possible, but we still have a chance to leave Boston with our dignity intact as long as we don't lay down and let them beat us.
GO FRIARS!! KEEP THE FAITH!!
