In game 2 of the series between our Padres and the Evil Mariners, our offense will face right-hander Michael Pineda, who has had an amazing start to his rookie season with a 5-2 record and a 2.45 ERA. We will counter with Clayton Richard, who is 2-4 with a 4.79 ERA.
Tonight, Richard is coming off a win against the Diamondbacks, a game in which he didn't pitch that well but was backed by a good offensive performance. However, Richard has pitched incredibly well at Petco Park this season (1.71 home ERA and .205 BAA), but is 0-2 in four starts at home. Against Seattle, Richard is 2-0 in three career starts, where he has allowed a total of just three runs.
It looks like tonight is going to be a great pitching duel. Since returning to Petco, our offense has scored a total of just four runs in three games, resulting in two losses and a walkoff 1-0 win. We'll need Clayton Richard and our bullpen to shut down the Mariners, which I'm confident they can do. I'm also confident that we can score at least one run, and that it will be enough to win tonight and keep up hopes for a series win.
GO FRIARS!! KEEP THE FAITH!!
