OPENING DAY 2011. BEST. SEASON. EVAR.

Wow! Here we are. Opening Day. How did that happen? It seems like just yesterday we were sitting in a state on confusion about what to make of the 2010 campaign. Did we get lucky? Didn't we get immensely unlucky? Is 2011 a rebuilding year? Didn't we have crap for a team last year? I thought that was our rebuilding year. If this team on paper looks better than last year's team, then how could this be a rebuilding year?

So confusing....

The Padres open the season today against our post-season nemesis, the Cardinals, in the annual Battle of Multiple Quasi-Religious References. We are one of six teams who get to open the season nationally, but to be honest, we're probably the one team that everybody looks at today and says, "WTF. Why have the Cardinals open the season against a jobber? Srsly."

That puts us in the perfect position to make a motherf_cking statement today. A good win today doesn't really mean anything (unless our season comes down to needing just one more win as it has like three times in the last 6 years), but a good win will nevertheless put the Padres in the public eye as, "Oh maybe last season wasn't a fluke".

That's just how people's brains work.

LET'S GO PADRES!!! OPENING DAY!!! BEST! SEASON! EVAR!
