I want to thank everyone that has sent me good luck wishes for quick healing of my hand over the past couple of days. In a few hours I will be heading over to the hospital to receive surgery to repair my broken hamate bone in my left hand. From what I hear, the recovery time for a surgery like this is six to eight weeks, but I am hoping I can recover quicker and get back out on the field shortly.
Showing genuine concern for Matt, I did a little research to learn more about the hamate bone or as I sometimes call it the unciform bone.
It is also a common injury in baseball players. A number of professional baseball players have had the bone removed during the course of their careers
I asked Antonelli via twitter if he too was having the hamate bone removed. He said the surgeons would remove the broken piece. I called dibs on the bone piece... sometimes I even weird myself out.
