The game in Miami started at the first sign of light in the early morning hours. Being from Breakfasttown, they are used to waking to the sound of crackling bacon and slept right through the early innings. Fortunately, the Padres are notorious sleep walkers and found their way to the field in full uniform, but it wasn't until the 5th inning that the blurry eyed team awoke from their slumber.
The Padres down 0-4 had to make up for lost time. Oscar Salazar started off the inning with a double over the head of the Marlins' center fielder. Salazar scored and the Padres loaded the bases for their greatest player David Eckstein. In epic Eckstein fashion he doubled down the left field line clearing the bases. Jerry Hairston ran through Hoffman's stop sign at third and tied the ball game at 4.
How can people not love David Eckstein? "He doesn't strike out enough! He wins too many games with clutch hits! He's too small and too cute!" I don't get it, those are good things.
Yorvit Torrealba hit a home run in the 8th inning. to make the score 6-4 Padres and Heath Bell made his third appearance in the series and recorded his 6th save.
Padres take their 4th series in a row and return to San Diego to play the Brewers tomorrow.
