I think the best part about sweeping teams is that it's demoralizing to the other team's fans, who can really be the most (if not in some cases only) annoying thing about a team.
The consideration here being of course that we don't care about wins and losses, maybe because we're in a season where we don't expect to compete for a championship or some sort of prize. If we were competing for some sort of prize or a championship, it would be different. In this case, sweeping teams (especially within the division), because a super great way of doing things like, but not limited to:
- Proving our superiority over said team
- Advancing within the divisional standings
- Increasing the likelihood that our team will achieve post season acceptance
- et cetera
In the end though, when I think about times that I've been razzed for being a Padres fan, it's fun to look at things like sweeps and yell something like, "SCOREBOARD!" Sometimes, if I happen to have had an alcoholic beverage, I may do something rude and make a pig calling noise at an opposing fan like, "SUHOOOOOO-WEEEEEP!" If I want to be extremely rude, I would follow this up with a statement like, "I'm saying sweep in the form of a swine call because I think your female acquaintance looks like a pig." That's really really rude though and I don't condone that.
It's good that the game is starting so early today because Jon Garland and Todd Wellemeyer are going to take forevs.
GO PADRES!!! LET'S GET SIX!!!
