A Padres front office source speculated that hiring Woodfork ---- a Harvard graduate who was hired by Moorad in 2005 and previously worked as the director of baseball operations for the Boston Red Sox ---- wouldn't necessarily constitute raiding the Diamondbacks because it doesn't involve current GM Josh Byrnes.

Police took Giles to county jail in downtown San Diego for booking on suspicion of spousal battery. He was released on bond about 8:30 a.m., a jail clerk said.
